The plate I created was originally a box, and my initial idea was that I wanted to break the bounds of its structured shape. It carries opposing ideas; the illustrious nature of fine art and a humble cardboard box. The title is a play on “wishing star” and “fishing boat” and helps to convey the dreamy quality of the piece. It represents the image’s openness to the viewer’s interpretation, be it sea or sky. This specific print of the edition was the first runner-up in the spring 2023 juried show in the Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery at Wayne State College.
